Guerin Group and Foot Readers [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 02:21:pm
The Foot Reader-Our feet reflect our journey
"Such are the intricacies of the human foot that
the great Leonardo Da Vinci described it as ?a
masterpiece of engineering and a work of art?.
GUERIN GROUP AND THE FOOT READER
The Guerin Group have just produced a documentary
for broadcast examining the benefits of the health
practice of reflexology, and the emotional physical
joys that it can brings to the human spirit.
"The Foot Reader" has been produced and directed
by the lovely and talented independent Melbourne
filmmaker, Brendan Guerin..This wee documentary
is a loving look at our feet and their journey.
ELISE'S JOURNEY
The film documents the journey of a 71-year old
woman Elsie Chapman who turned to reflexology
after her own doctors admitted they could no
longer help in her battle against Osteoarthritis,
Osteoporosis, diabetes and other chronic aliments.
We follow Elise?s six weekly one hour reflexology
sessions Elsie speaks of her remarkable improvement
with her health and emotional state. The film examines
the practice of reflexology and its vital role in
modern health practice. An ancient practice given
new life in the 21st century. This documentary is
an exploration into the subtle work of reflexology
and how our feet reveal the hidden parts of us?
The documentary speaks to how the work of reflexology
influences ones well being."What kind of person we are,
how we perceive our self. From an emotional perspective
and indeed the benefits reflexology has on our health.
The ?Foot Reader? shot in 2008 and completed earlier in
2009 a 10 -minute documentary on the beliefs aspirations
and passion of an Australian practitioner Lyn Fava.
A ?champion? of the fledgling reflexology industry.
LYN FAVA ON REFLEXOLOGY
"According to Lyn, reflexology is an effective and safe
way to improve blood circulation, energy flow and natural
healing in the human body. ?Reflexes are located on the
hands and feet that correspond to all the glands, organs
and other body parts. Using ones finger and thumb pressure
techniques on reflex points, one can stimulate the body?s
natural ability to heal.?
?From an emotional perspective, one foot represents the
past while the other represents the present and you can
see if there?s been a change in a person?s life,?.
LYN FAVA
Lyn worked as a trained nurse for 20 years before concluding
that the traditional western approach to medicine was simply
not enough for some people. Reflexology is now filling that
void.
linkwww.perfectharmony.com.au/therapists.shtml
While scientists remain skeptical about the benefits
of reflexology, Elise Chapman and many others who
have benefited from reflexology would beg to differ.
Extensive research is under way in Europe and in
Scandinavia, "that those in the know and see" will
no doubt validate the technique and help lift the
industry.

The divine and cutting edge Elissa Hawke is in
Melbourne for Comedy Festival 2009. With a one
?Goddess/ woman? show over 3 thrilling nights at
a favorite arts venue 303 High st Northcote
Elissa is a true and very wise comedic Goddess
at the cutting edge of clear consciousness..This
show is an absolute joy that shakes the cage of
the world behaving badly.
She is extremely confronting with wit, stylish very
shiny Blahniks not to mention a very sharp tongue.
Her charm and candor will entice one to feel less
depressed, disempowered and disenchanted
with the state of ones universe.
This is a ?must see? show that bites back at ALL
the Powers-That?Be, like a bull ant in ones knickers.
Come and laugh at her furious and fantastic attempts
to alter the world with her ?brillante? performance
art.
Elissa examines what freedoms we have and what we
assume we have. This show is a window into what may
take several life times, and much gnashing of teeth
to scratch the surface of, so that we truly readdress
what we value and how we value it .
?New girl order? shows us how caged disempowered, lied
to, brainwashed and controlled we have allowed ?state
and world to become??
The exhaustion of dealing with ?Road tolls, parking meters,
mandatory child vaccinations, ID cards, iris scans, sedition
acts, mobile fingerprinting and microchips.?
?The insidious subliminal messages, mind control, unfounded
fear, nationalistic patriotic corporate government education
indoctrination, false flag psy-ops, the myths of a fractional
reserve banking system, war, democracy, religion? and other
weapons of mass distraction....
AND all for the sickly greed of our so called ?OWNERS?.?
THE WAR IS ON US! THE JOKE WAS ON US! ?..UNTIL NOW
Be ready to be rattled, aurally ravaged and slapped into
a new clarity by Elissa?s show. Some have said it is like
spending 5 minutes in a 747 toilet with Ralph Fiennes.
Elissa will leave you feeling disgusted~ yet? begging for
more!
OTHERS WHO LOVE ELISSA?S WORK
?She?s very funny? I guarantee your satisfaction.?

Lioness's voices on Melbourne 's "3RRR" [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 03:04:pm
One of my favorite magical and very dear Goddess
friends has taken a higher step on the mountain
of VITA/life. She is a true ?vessel of compassion..?
A lioness who is full of great wit and wisdom..
She has celebrated yet another triumphant year ?
We here at Vita may well present it to government
as a must have public holiday...Bless you my dear
and all who reign with you? May you remain supreme
and continue on ones path of bold beautiful
bawdiness...(frank, humorous, and often very very
naughty...and of course entirely divine?)!!
Hidden Voices and intimate connections
Establishing closeness in ones world/working relationship
requires effort and genuine connection? It just does not
bode well to simply agree to keep the peace or avoid
conflict??
Intimacy only develops when it is genuine and a
goal into itself. One can only have an opportunity
to deepen ones friendships and love when one engages
FULLY?..
ONE will not be able to attain real connection if
ones mind wanders and is on simply getting ahead
AND creating false hope and fantasy for ones self.
Be present in every moment be genuine in what one
offers to the other. Just being with someone we enjoy
love and respect without having an agenda is the best
love and always enough??

La Mama ? A Melbourne Theatre Arts Icon
is up for sale and needs our financial
help !!!
La Mama, in Carlton is a remarkable arts
icon that has been a fundamental backbone
of the Melbourne arts scene for over 40 years....
The building is up for sale and needs our
support to continue it's vital vibrant part in
Melbourne's Arts community ...
We All have an opportunity to play a meaningful
role and be part of maintaining La Mama's future....
As you maybe aware, La Mama?s landlady of 40 years -
Rose del Monaco died in November last year. Her
estate has offered us first option to purchase the
La Mama site.
Whilst thrilled at this offer, the terms make it
IMPERATIVE that we call for help from those who are
able and prepared to contribute financially to the
La Mama Trust fund -
Our goal is to raise the deposit at very short notice!
We are suggesting 1000 friends contributing $1,000 each..
However all financial contributions whether less or more
are very welcome and appreciated....
We are part of the way there and would be extremely

Dutch Courage succeeds in treating these issues with a
good deal of sensitivity...' Adelaide Advertiser

Heath has left his mountain [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 09:49:am
I have just had some very very sad new from
my people in New York in the West Village.
Young Australian actor lovely talented and
courageous Heath Ledger has left his body
and his mountain at 28...He obviously had
reached the pinnacle of his "NY" mountain.
Was it sadness, the fast intense seductive
pace of New York? A tragic accident or was
the heady life of "acting" out being a BIG
"movie star", just all too confronting and
consuming??
Expressing ones emotions and truest feelings
rather than resisting them is inevitable. This
tragically is something Heath obviously did
not allow himself to do..
So always be brave and let ones truest fears
hope and dreams to arise. Share these hopes
and burdens without fear of rejection or of
ridicule.
Share with those one trusts, then all false
fears will fade away naturally and trust and
hope will always return.
Sharing ones deepest feelings and hurts is
always a difficult choice. One can make
life easier to manage once everything is
expressed .
All will be revealed and his life revalued
& respected, for his heartfelt contributions
to the Australian film industry and indeed
the international stage he stood on...
He has returned to the great film set in
the sky?I will have more news about the
very talented Heath later from VITA?We
are still in shock here?.
I will be in constant contact with my
Manhattan people, to reveal the facts
of the matter....
May the great goddess in the sky take
Heath in her arms and love him until
his next life.....

Poignant poweful passionate moments [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 01:11:pm
Relationships, like all the best things, in ones
life, are works in progress. Illusions of urgency
can be ones greatest enemy, So take ones sweet
delicious divine time??
Signals of personal inner harmony and current
loving reconciliation with ones love, is always
present and yet also BE in the fullness of time.
Travel the road less traveled. Always give ones
self and the other right timing. Allow ones self
room to breath and manifest the best of love and
life?
One can enjoy life when we walk past and let go
of old uncertainties that create reminders, of
ALL our negative outdated experiences.
Reexamine ones reactions and responses to any
given situation that creates fear of the unknown..
Consider and create new ways of enjoying each
divine moment one has been given to have and
share with the other....Let go of perceived
pressure to react quickly.
As the Buddha says "every moment is perfect"..
Listen and revalue ones actions to create
purposeful renewed interest.Listen and enjoy
love that resonates in the heart mind body
and soul.
Pay attention release what beliefs and
fears that no longer relevant nor useful
to one!! Always nurture the self and enjoy
what is necessary and yet extremely nice!!

Shining the light for "HOPE' [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 03:58:pm
FOR AMAL AND ALL THOSE THAT STILL HAVE HOPE
HOPE HAS ARRIVED!!!
We are pleased to announce that "HOPE" Steve Thomas'
and Sue Brooks' documentary about Amal Basry and the
SIEV X, will be screening at the inaugural Human Rights
Arts and Film Festival
Capitol Cinema,
Swanston Street, Melbourne
Sunday 2nd December at 3.40pm.
http://www.hraff.org.au/
Tickets are now available online at
/
www.greentix.com.au/evinfo.php?eventid=20362&sid=.
Hope was sold out at the Melbourne International
Film Festival and many people have been asking
when they can see it.
We are planning a more general release and hoping
for some cinema screenings in 2008 but the HRAFF
screening is the last opportunity to see the film
on the big screen this year.
In conjunction with this event and the imminent 2007
Federal Election, we have posted a pertinent scene
from 'Hope' on ?You Tube? for the world to see.
You can view the clip and comment on it at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PnC23zC5Bg
Steve Thomas & Sue Brooks (Producers
HOPE SYNOPSIS (from the HRAFF Program):
Amal Basry watched The Titanic at a cinema in
Baghdad the night before she fled Iraq. Months
later the people smuggling boat she was on, that
became known, as the SIEV-X.
sievx.com/
The boat sank between Indonesia and Australia and
350 people drowned in Australia?s largest maritime
disaster since WWII. Amal was one of only 7 survivors
who made it to Australia, after spending 22 hours in
the ocean clinging to a floating corpse.
In public, Amal became an advocate for the survivors
of the SIEV-X. In private, she fought to reunite her
fragmented family, cope with the personal consequences
of the disaster and return to Indonesia to find what
I lost in the ocean.
Following its sell-out screening at MIFF, Hope shows
us the human face of one of the most horrific and
controversial, yet unpublicized, events in modern
Australia.
WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID ABOUT "HOPE'
Some stories shake a nation. Others slip away -
Katherine Kizilios, The Age.
Seeing HOPE I wept: the extraordinary Amal deserved
just such a testament.
"We expected to come away shamed once again by our
country's attitude towards people who come to Australia
looking for protection, and while that shame remains
We marveled instead at Amal's beautiful
life, someone whose generous spirit seemed
able to transcend her circumstances.
"Hope is the best type of documentary: activist
without being preachy; Simple without lacking
complexity; effective staggeringly so, without
being gimmicky. It commanded. and rewarded my
whole attention."
"The scenes in Indonesia were among the most moving
and the connection between the silver haired Australian
and the feisty Iraqi woman desperate to get her story
told became more and more compelling as the film went
on."
"The film stayed with me all weekend, and I think that
makes it special."
"There are moments in the film when our hands find our
mouths and our breathing stops: we might not expect
that the lives of people fleeing persecution turn to
bliss as soon as they?re granted a visa, BUT even still,
it doesn?t seem fair that someone of Amal?s basic
human goodness must fight the battles she?s asked to
fight."
"Although others had told the story of the SIEV X,
Amal's story was hers alone and she wanted it told her
way. Amazingly, HOPE is Amal's film as much as the
filmmakers'; it's suffused with her presence, will
and charisma."
"The hope of 'HOPE' is that stories such as Amal?s
will continue to be told - Not for the sake of
telling but in the hope that through their telling
something might change...If not today, then maybe
tomorrow."

'Capsule' by Weave Movement Theatre
'Civilised' humans are the ultimate
control freaks. We clock, cramp, crush
and cage our wild natures. Yet we are
clutched by breathless urges to break out,
take flight.
From Icarus to Aristophanes to our
obsession with jetting away from it all
in a claustrophobic capsule.
Weave Movement Theatre is an inclusive
company of performers with and without
disability, combining dance, physical
theatre and inprovisation.
They dance on the edge. They break out
into motley characters who vehemently
expound a skewed view of reality.
When you bend something out of shape,
it doesn't break, you might just create
something more interesting.

big smoke....INHERITANCE is an opportunity to examine
what is it WE VALUE...What is it we bequeath to our
children and what are their needs and why..The key
question apparently being asked is "Who will get the
farm?" and WHY...??

The "Noise's in our head [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 11:21:am
Well it is complete and done, as it is on Jupiter.
The lovely funny and prolific Mathew Saville has
climbed yet another of his mountains. Matt has NOW
completed and released his first feature film ?NOISE?.
Madman Pictures Pitch
"From director of ROY HOLSDOTTER LIVE, Matthew Saville's
first feature length film is a murder thriller set in
(elegant)Melbourne,"
The film is "about a young male cop struggling to control
the pressure of his job as well as a deafening noise
growing inside his mind."
VITA's swing on "Noise"
Mathew?s film is an exploration of the ?Noises? in our
heads. The film examines beliefs, that include
integrity ones self- responsibility and control.
Who has control who does not? What is it ANYWAY?
Control and over what? An episodic tale of ?ordinary
life? or is it? Graham one of ?Noise?s? key character
is a young police officer battling with the controlling
behavior in his work environment
(Or it could well be out dated 20 century forms of old
leadership styles)
Graham is also dealing with his internal battle of self-
identity and his connection to the whole, with a very
disconcerting intimidating noise inside himself....
A pinnacle moment in "NOISE" is when Graham discusses
with Dean (whose girlfriend has been murdered?) An
intimate discussion that covers the issue of HOW we
perceive, our moments between life, death?, and the
effect that has on us?
Graham is privy to murder fear despair and anger in his
world?Graham is indeed, very tortured, witty, and yet
a conscious man. Graham is dealing with complex issues
of LAW and order. He is witnessing a world behaving badly.
While listening to the torture and noises in his own
head ?.
?Noise?, explores community / society?s horror, and
inability to face ones, own demons. ?NOISE? examines
dis/empowered, communities, their response and power/
lessness anger and frustration, ?Noise? asks us to
examine who must act on the situation that ensues in
this film?
There is a tragic sense that some one else ?should fix?
the problem ? Or worse still is it someone else?s fault??
Most importantly and yet less examined, within the content
is Lavina?s experience? ?Lavina Smart? witnesses a mass murder,
is stalked and confronted with her own mortality TWICE ? The
incredible ?lack of duty care? by the police to what Lavina
Smart experienced as the ?witness ?to the horrific murders?,
is gop smacking in its neglect?
Who is the victim who is the oppressor?.we must ask ourselves?
Noise is a dark and visually confronting piece. The film has
great night scenes, Visually feels like the less elegant
aspects of Melbourne.Matt may well be branding Melbourne as
the New York of film locations?
Mmmm? got to love that ?Strong performances by the rather
handsome Luke Elliot the powerful Maia Thomas and rather
amusing understated and lovely Simon Laherty.
Like patriarchy ?Tinnitus itself is not a disease but a
symptom and has many causes?. There is always a cure ?We
must as Matt believes behave as ?decent? human beings and
love the other as we would have ourselves loved?

Loving shared dialogue all the time [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 10:31:am
"I would argue, being a writer myself, that as a director working
with someone else's script, I'm probably more sympathetic to a
writer than maybe someone who's purely a director, because I
understand the process.
I wanted, in this case Christine Roum, in Vancouver with me
the whole time; I really wanted her on set. I like that dialogue.
I think that's often how you get the best movies, when you have
another voice in the mix."

Maintaining culture [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 10:59:am
Get up and help the survival of Burrup Peninsula
"Take a moment to imagine a cultural icon six times
older than the Pyramids, eight times older than
Stonehenge. Imagine probably the earliest surviving
rock carvings on this planet: close to a million images
of ancient faces and our earliest fauna, spread throughout
a group of small islands alongside the west coast of
Australia.
linkwww.burrup.org.au/
Most Australians have never even heard of these
rock carvings on the Burrup Peninsula - and have no
idea this silent world treasure is at risk of being
needlessly pulled apart and destroyed from blind
industrial development.
But we can tell Australia's Environment Minister
now that we want to save the remaining rock art from any
further destruction, and help Burrup become what it
should be:
Burrup Peninsula
One of the world's most well-known and safely-visited
heritage sites.
linkwww.getup.org.au/campaign/SaveOurHeritage
Burrup, or Murrijuga by its Indigenous name, also
happens to be the site of a liquefied natural gas
plant (LNG). This operation is jointly owned by
the largest petrochemical companies in the world &
managed by Woodside Energy Ltd.
It's a $20 billion venture, which currently provides
almost two-thirds of WA's gas supply and export. But
Woodside now has plans to expand on their own, with a
new LNG facility set to cut straight through this
prehistoric university.
So far, at least 10,000 rock carvings have already
been lost from uncontrolled development.
New industrial plans could lead to the loss of thousands
more, with federal and state government authorities are
admitting up to 40 per cent of the rock art could be
dismantled or destroyed to accommodate expansion.
It's like splitting Stonehenge or the Pyramids in half,
drilling for oil and packing the nicest bits in a nearby
quarry.
The truth is,we don't have to choose between destruction
or development. Experts agree new gas can still be
extracted offshore, but processed at a different location.
If enough of us speak up now we can save the remaining rock
art without dampening the economic development of Western
Australia's growing industry.
www.getup.org.au/campaign/SaveOurHeritage
Thankfully, Australia's Federal Minister for Environment
and Heritage, Ian Campbell, is now calling for public
submissions on whether to grant the Burrup Peninsula
national heritage-listing status.
This would immediately open the way for a world heritage
listing - the World Monument Fund has placed the rock art
on its list of 100 most endangered heritage sites.
But because so few Australians have ever heard of Burrup,
much less Senator Campbell's timely call for submissions,
it could be destroyed before the world ever gets the
opportunity to appreciate it.
Now advocates of a 'win-win' solution for Burrup and our
economy include the most unlikely allies: a former Labor
Premier of WA and a former Liberal Minister for State
Development both argue Burrup should become a heritage
site, with further development moved to more economically
profitable locations and traditional custodians consulted.
We have a once in a generation opportunity to rise above
old, unimaginative thinking to save an Australian & world
heritage treasure.
Submissions are due in a matter of days: this is the moment
we can give Australia's richest, unknown island the chance
for a different future.
Click on the link below to be part of GetUp's submission,
and you can also write your own.
www.getup.org.au/campaign/SaveOurHeritage
Thank you for taking action today that will matter to
generations far into the future"

Revealing Propositions [Vita's Arts & Culture] -

SHARING THE DANCE OF FUTURE HAPPINESS
Well it is done ?as it is in heaven???.. Westgarth Cinema
was ?officially? relaunched. By PALACE-CINEMAS.
Last night well over 300 people attended the Westgarth
Winter soir?e, at the grand old lady of Westgarth.
We at the Vita ?com? pound are thrilled to the tree tops
with and for them..... All involved must be thanked and
thrilled, for what could only be seen to be a ?triumphant
success???
LETS wish them well and hope it will make a remarkable
difference, to the future of Westgarth Village. WE can
but hope PALACE Cinemas will retain/maintain the
organic & elegant approach that is synonymous with what has
gone before??
"WESTGARTHIANS" and film goers alike look forward to a
long & illustrious RENEW/ed viewing schedule at the revitalised
Westgarth ?PALACE???.. May all who gather at the ?PALACE,
share the dance of the future!!
May the integrity and splendour that makes OUR cinema &
community great/,be upheld. As we welcome OUR new tenants
may all have a mutual understanding to greatness and much
to say on the issue of kind acts and gratefulness??
Whats on the menu what s in the BOX?
The menu and the crowd were arguably? an exotic
mix of international flavours and "stars"....
From the Greek islands to Shanghai not to mention
the Thai style noodle ?BENITO? boxs??
With the occassional sighting of Chicago style gangsters
from Melbourne's growth corridors!"
ANAS REVELATION
However the revelation on the night was NO doubt ?the main meal,?
a NEW Australian feature film.....BY writer/director,
Ana Kokkinos. It is a heart stopping film,
The Book of Revelation..
An impeccably strong cast with gob smacking visuals that
may leave one shaking with fear about the facts of the matter...
A film that raises ugly truths in a intoxicating and TRUTHFUL
WAY!! Ana and her team have served up a remarkably insightful
film that has content that is cutting edge.....very
NEEDED and very NOW...... Ana takes US to the places
that we would prefer to disregard. Revalations that are
dense, intense and difficult to bare let alone live with..
OTHER considerations on Ana's film
An absolute MUST see concise & hard to bare/stomach
Powerful potent and all consuming???
Full ON film very complex and confronting. A tad to
long unless one can take and LIVE that level of
pain......
Characters that just disappear yet some are lost and
then are re/found....... An extremely profound and at
times confounded messages......What do we hold sacred
and what is it we scared of?? What is love and what is
lust? Do we dance into the future or dance our last dance?
The most compelling of films, not seen since the "Proposition?
linkwww.thepropositionfilm.com/
Heart- breaking gut wrenching, and imperative viewing.
linkwww.thebookofrevelations.com.au
See more on the screening details of Ana's revealing film
on the ?Palace Westgarth website on the right??
Deeply soul destroying, for those that know, what
?Daniel? knows??(Tom Longs chararcter)
Brave and brillant content that cuts to the heart of
our unspoken fears A film that makes US examine the
pain, shame and stain that could well be seen in
patriarchy.......

"As a country, it's a collective psyche thing, that
we were attacked. In a sense, the nation was raped
that day. I think the film is confronting some of
those feelings and saying, look, go back to the
"therapist" and start talking to "them" about what
it was, who was the attacker? What was the day like?
What is it you fear? Describe to me the rape, so to
speak. And I think in doing that, the patient often
unlocks the armors that keep their fear within."
Oliver Stone, on revisiting the 9/11 tragedy through
World Trade Center

"No, I'm not. I certainly respect how complex it is, & how
much focus is required. There will be some very hard times,
with tons of pressure but you work through it. I am so
invested in it from a creative standpoint that my eye just
stays on the end goal. I keep focused on making it exactly
how I want it and treat every day as a path to that final
product."
Director Neill Blomkamp, asked if he was nervous
about tackling his first feature-length assignment

Somewhat more elegant than little Johnnie's flawed

However a NEW format and formula is being developed
for the RENEWAL and REVALUING OF WCFF and could well
be announced shortly...
What John said in the the AGE Newspaper today on his
HIGHLY OPPOSED MIGRATION POLICY
"I believe in it very strongly and I believe the community
believed in it."
But did John go to the Mountaintop? Belief is a very very
personal/ particular business....One wonders what community
could John be speaking of? Has he asked the people of Naru
or any where for that matter....
Maybe he asked in, Gympie and Nambour....? Prime regional
target towns ripe for revitalisation. With possibly a
need for a major rethink of their belief systems as well....
It may well appear he has asked for of shore advice on the
matter........

The charcoal and canvas of life [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 12:30:pm
Lovely Louisa & Josephine are currently showing their
divine art work at the stylish and light RED GALLERY.......
Josephine Fagan and Louisa Jenkinson are definitely
2 Goddess?s willing and very determined NOT TO fall
through any possibe ?fissures? (cracks nor crevices),
of Mr Howards Australia......
In fact I would be happy to say they are very much
at the cutting edge of all things great and gorgeous!!!
Vibrant clean and a majestic works that speak to us
very clearly in ?black & white?. Through their strong
images on canvas.....
They could both, well be compared with the divine and
brave Joe Simpson- the famous english mountain climber.
See Vita' Mountains July 20th 2004 for more info on
Joe Simpson....
They will make the distance, by continuing to make
decisions and take NO line of retreat, in pursuit of
their art for life??
Never inactive committed to a life?s work. Passionate,
about their art? Willing to live / love fully. Able
to get their teeth and swirl into every stretch of
their developing works on canvas.....
Doing so with beauty and definition using charcoal and
paints in their work. Thus showing the spirit of the way
of a Goddess's work... Prepared to go knee deep in to
the canvas of their life?
Both deeply committed to the view from the mountain top??
Ah ya ya?.. Very much worth a look- see ??

Light and darkness on Vita's Mountain [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 08:33:am
A Darebin Theatre Project Production:
Fear and Misery and the Howard Reich
An evening of Brecht and Brecht inspired performance
"Bertolt?s Brecht?s classic short plays The Informer
and The Chalk Cross are taken from his Fear and Misery
in the Third Reich a collection of 26 short plays that
detail how fear and misery comes to dominate ordinary l
ife under the fascism of the Nazi government. Over 70
years.
His plays bring disturbing parallels to current life
in Australia, where the lives of ordinary Australians
are being radically changed by the draconian legislations
of the Howard government."
The Plays: Directed by the absolutely divine and
extremely talented: Steve Pereira
The Exception and The Rule by Bertolt Brecht
Translated by Eric Bentley and by special arrangement
with Dominie Pty. Ltd
A merchant races through the desert with his carrier and
guide determined to gain the rights to a newly discovered
oil field. Driven by the promise of untold wealth, the
merchant cruelly exploits his crew and a murder is committed.
At the subsequent trial, the notion of guilt and innocence
is turned topsy turvy in the new World order.
The Informer by Bertolt Brecht
Translated by Eric Bentley and by special arrangement
with Dominie Pty. Ltd
The government has engaged in campaign to rid the state
of subversive elements and is encouraging its citizens
to inform on each other. An entire society is paralysed
in fear. In a middle class household, a respectable man
and his wife chafing at the restraints of the new order
are suddenly thrown into a panic when they wonder if
their own teenage son has turned on them.
The Chalk Cross by Bertolt Brecht Translated by Eric
Bentley and by special arrangement with Dominie Pty. Ltd
Nazi Germany: in the kitchen of the house of a rich
industrialist,a member of the Nazi Paramilitary, visiting
his fianc?e is provoked into a series of revelations as
to how the totalitarian regime manages control of some
potentially subversive elements.
"Shades of Kafka, the play is a chilling indictment of how
individuals are co-opted into National ideologies."
And including: Shorter but no less sharper Original
work...........
Althusser's Theory devised and performed
by Sandrine Dower-Hansen and music by
Anthony Chessells
"A sharp theatrical deconstruction/reconstruction of
Althusser?s theory of socially constructed identity."
Fish devised and performed by Gemma Collett with cast
A lyrically disconcerting movement piece about?people?
society?people and society.
Pirate Jenny devised and performed by Catherine Scobie
?You people can watch while I'm scrubbing these floors
And I'm scrubbin' the floors while you're gawking Maybe
once ya tip me and it makes ya ...? Cabaret has rarely
been so raw and so dark?"
The Box devised and performed by Catherine Scobie with
Sean Louth-Robins
"A twisted, fractured not-so-fairy tale about power &
possession and more..........."

DARKLOVESTORY
Dir: Jon Hewitt | 60 mins approx | Australia
"Jon Hewitt?s third feature (well mini feature) is a
breathless, flipped-out tale of crime, fate, mayhem &
love. Completely shot on the mean streets of Sydney?s
Kings Cross"
"Starring the talented Belinda McClory and Aaron Pedersen
as star-cross?d lovers chasing a happy ending.
"Darklovestory? is a dialectical fairytale about story
telling wrapped in a crime thriller dripping with s.x,
violence and subtext!
"Set over one frantic night in the mythic neon realm of
Australia?s infamous red light district, Jon?s assured
direction has a slightly surreal and dream-like edge
that adds to the overall trance-like and fairytale feel
of the film."

"third opus, darklovestory. It is dark indeed."
Starring Belinda McClory, Aaron Pedersen, Anthony Phelan,

DRAMA FOR PEACE IN EAST TIMOR
7pm Thursday June 22 - Theatreworks,
14 Acland St., St Kilda
A press relaease from: Friends of Suai
Friends of Suai the Port Phillip community
group. are helping rebuild the East Timorese
town of Suai. They are hosting a night of
film, poetry, music & talk to raise money
for the Dili-based drama troupe. Bibi Bulak
(the Crazy Goats),to perform in refugee camps
within East Timor
linkwww.discoverdili.com/communityprojects.html
The fundraiser, to be held at 7pm Thursday
June 22 at Theatreworks, 14 Acland St.,
St Kilda
This event will feature a talk by Annie
Sloman, the arts administrator & theatre
circus trainer at Bibi Bulak, a short
performance from Bibi Bulak on film,
and poetry and music by the divine
Melchior Dias Fernandez (Mely),- The
lead singer of one of Timor's most well
known bands, Galaxy.
Admission is by gold coin donation &
tickets are available at the door. Ms
Sloman, who was recently evacuated to
Melbourne due to the violence in Dili,
is using her time here to talk about the
work of Bibi Bulak and raise money.
"While the country is in crisis, the
emerging art scene in East Timor is working
overtime to help empower the youth and keep
people's minds on positive peaceful ways to
deal with their trauma," she says.
"Bibi Bulak, which is composed mostly of
young people, wants to perform at the thirty
or forty refugee camps that have sprung up
in and around Dili. The performances will
promote messages about health and women's
leadership as well as simply just providing
entertainment to take people's minds of what
is going on around them. We hope it will help
heal people who have already been through so
much.
"Our group is mostly young people and we
want to say loud and clear that young people
have a lot to contribute. They're not all
troublemakers. They can shine a light on
the long road to peace."
East Timorese artist, musician and writer
Melchior Dias Fernandez is also in Melbourne,
following performances at the Sydney and Darwin
Writers' Festivals. He's usually based at the
Arte Moris (Living Art)Cultural Centre, home
to both Bibi Bulak and the free art school,
Arte Moris.
Throughout the recent crisis the art school,
Arte Moris, and performance group Bibi Bulak
have carried on, running workshops and
performances in the camps. Arte Moris has
also become a refugee camp itself with over
600 people currently camped at the cultural
centre.
Ms Sloman said she'd been in regular contact
with her friends and workmates in Dili since
her evacuation. "I rang Arte Moris the other
day and the students were in the midst of a
class, trying to carry on their lives as
normally as possible despite the gunfire in
the background."
"Many of the students' families lost every
thing when their houses burnt down, so
they're now living at the centre. Arte Moris
is using all its reserves earmarked for art
supplies and classes to feed the refugees,"
she said.
According to Ms Sloman, Bibi Bulak and Arte
Moris have become havens for the young
people of East Timor since being set up
in 2000 & 2003 respectively.
"Bibi Bulak and Arte Moris have attracted
everyone from street kids to gang members,
ex-Falintil fighters, young women, students,
and even taxi drivers. The arts have proved
a positive way to channel their energy and
provide hope for the future.
"Many of the students say if it weren't for
these organisations, they would be out on
the street creating the violence that is
currently engulfing Dili. Bibi Bulak and
Arte Moris give them a voice as well as a
living."
Ms Sloman said that youth are the forgotten
people in East Timor. "Half the population
is under the age of 21 and around 75 per cent,
I think, are under the age of 27," she said.
"Unemployment amongst young people is up
to 80 per cent. Most were educated under
the Indonesian system so don't speak
Portuguese or English, virtually making it
impossible to get a decent job. On top of
this, the government and many of the aid
agencies appear to have largely forgotten
them. They are incredibly disillusioned
and disempowered. Many see no future.
"It's simply great that Bibi Bulak want
to try and do something positive within
this entire catastrophe." When life
settles down again, Bibi Bulak will set
up the first theatre group in Suai, a
coastal town near the border with West
Timor. Funded by Friends of Suai, it will
be based at the Suai Youth Centre.

Writing with passion [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 04:57:pm
"You can win as long as you chose your
battles. You can win more arguments
then you might think as a writer, even
though you legally have no recourse, &
your script can get muddied and altered
in any way possible.
You can use reason, logic, and passion
to argue persuasively for a case in your
favor. So what I've learned is to just
basically not buckle, not be belligerent,
not be angry, not throw fits, but just
not buckle.......
Though there are times where you have to
stand up and yell. If I've got to throw
a chair, I'll throw a chair. There was
a meekness about me when I started, and
I think the meekness has sort of
evaporated. I hope that it's left behind
a more passionate person, not a meaner
person.
So I guess that's what I've learned."

Lally Katz and the Terrible Mysteries of
the Volcano is the new show from award-
winning independent theatre company,
Stuck Pigs Squealing (The Eisteddfod,The
Black Swan of Trespass).
"It is a metaphysical fairy tale for adults,
in three timezones, set in a post-apocalyptic
Canberra. Featuring a rich live sound score
by Jethro Woodward and a fantastical design
by Adam Gardnir, the audience is taken on a
ride into a bittersweet world of memory,
love and loss."
"The story of the play follows an unnamed
childhood catastrophe involving a boy named
Lally and a girl named Wendy. This trauma
blows open a portal to a fantastical, fluid
and terrifying place peopled by ghosts,
lovers and cargo cults. It is another
Canberra, trapped in an eternal landscape
of tropical palms, church halls & volcanic
ash."

The Garth Method (82min)
Directed by Melbourne filmmaker
Gregory Pakis
"In 2001 unemployed actor Garth Petridis was
imprisoned for one of the most unusual crimes
in Australian history.
Desperate for success he kidnapped members of
the public and forced them to perform in a bizarre
movie intended to make Garth a household name.
He kept a video diary of the whole process.
Upon his release from jail he convinced filmmaker
Gregory Pakisto recreate the story of his
life before his crimes and the outrageous stunts
he would pull 'method acting' to get 'sexy and tough'
to win parts.
Shot on Super 16mm, The Garth Method is a combination
of Garth's REAL video diary and the re creation of
his comic struggle to become an actor that drove him
to such a dangerous method of achieving acting fame.
"The Garth Method flies high and all the performances

"I think the thing is, a) don't give up.
b) find something you're passionate about and that
you have a relative advantage on, that you know
more about and you're more interested in and write
about that.
c) Don't fall in love with your own words. That's
a common mistake, where writers will finish a script
and think, 'God, this is perfect.
They should film it just the way it is.' That's not
how, in my experience, screenwriting works. It's an
endless process. I go through draft after draft after
draft before I show it to the first person.
Then I go through more. You have to commit to the
ride and not to the destination."
William Broyles, Jr., whose Jarhead hit DVD this
week, on the best way to get ahead in writing

"I didn't want in the movie to judge the middle-
class couple, other than to say that none of us
can feel comfortable in South Africa behind our
gates without talking to the other, even if we
don't like them. This notion of good and evil is
not helpful.
How are we going to engage the poverty?
Well, you just have to do a little bit. You don't
necessarily have to be Mother Theresa, but you
can't completely cut yourself off.
Compassion is a useful tool."

On the Money in Stuttgart [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 03:56:pm
Ah ya ya ?.on ward and upward for Jamie Clennett and
"MR MONEY?. From Melbourne Film Festival 2005,The Port
Shorts to award winner at the first Westgarth Film Festival
"Food for Thought 2005". Mr Money is NOW on his way to
Stuttgart in 2006.
Stuttgart Animation Film Festival
APRIL 27th ? MAY 02nd 2006
The lovely talented and entrepreneurial Jamie Clennett
has taken his fabulous film "The Fabulous Adventure of
Mr Money" to the Stuttgart International Festival of
Animated Film (ITFS), which is the largest event for
animated film in Germany.
linkwww.itfs.de/
?Title: The Fabulous Adventure of Mr Money
The Diary of an Entrepreneur
This is a partial exxtract from theDirectors
Statement on Mr Money
"Mr. Money is about the Australia that I understand it
to be. I believe there is no fixed, solid history.
History is fluid interpretation of the past, which should
be robust enough to withstand scrutiny.
This point is currently being debated in the "history
wars", between various academics of Australian history,
both from the left and right of politics.
History is always written by the victors, although some
historians believe it?s time to re-write some errors or
make Australian history less Anglo-centric. On the other
hand, some think Australian history must remain as it is,
serving the national interest by strengthening an
"Australian" identity.
Hmmm what is identity and who's we ask??........Vita
I made Mr. Money to be an illustration of how I
see Australian history. I don?t claim that this is
the right and true version. Apart from the fact that
Mr. Money is a collection of metaphors for the
settlement of Australia to the present
I don?t intend for this to be a visual essay of the
horrors brought to this country by Europeans. I suppose
I would prefer people to identify the issues for people
to make up their own mind.
If you agree with Darwinism, we all share a common
African ancestor. Taking such a long-term view,
can anyone really claim to be truly indigenous to
Australia anyway?
Perhaps it?s more valid that all humans are natives
of the planet rather than one specific place. Therefore
we are all natives or none of us is."
Creative: Jamie Clennett
In 1999 Jamie completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the
University Of Tasmania, School of Art. He then enrolled
in design at NIDA. After graduating in 2003 Jamie has
established himself as a Theatre and Film Designer,
Graphic Artist and Animator.
Animation credits include? animated 2D & 3D graphics
for Tom White directed by Alkinos Tsilimidos (April 2003;
A 7-minute film titled Sacred (Jan, 2003); a 2 minute
film titled Two Men Called Mr Business (May, 2004); &
his latest film "The Fabulous Adventure of Mr Money"
(November, 2004). Mr Money premiered at the Melbourne
International Film Festival (MIFF) for 2005.?

Butterflies in Westgarth [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 12:24:pm
Developing a cocoon is a natural and essential part
of being a caterpillar. But the time comes when the
cocoon softens, wears out, and opens up.
William Martin in A Path and a Practice
To Practice This Thought: Contemplate what it would
mean for you to move from the cocoon stage of ones
development to being a butterfly.
Out and about at ACMI
My PA and confidante took a sustainable chose and
slipped out of the Westgarth Village last night and
was seen at ACMI, discussing the importance of genuine
traditions and the meaning of true love at ACMI.
Waxing a little lyrical with one of her ALL time
favourite directors the brillant loving and prolific
Laurence Johnston.
Rumour has it she was discussing the potential of
being one of the next home coming Queen"s in Grafton,
with a her long lost twin Ms Mel!!!
Laurences Film
"Dream Of Love
Australia (26 mins)
The joys of love last but a short time. Through
remarkably direct and intimate interviews, Melbourne
filmmaker Lawrence Johnston allows us into his family
as they ruminate on love and explore its joys and pains,
based on the 59-year marriage of his parent."
The response to our first film festival
Westgarth Film Festival "Food for Thought 2005' continues
to sparkle and delight the village and those in LOVE
with film. The village is aglow with pride if not a
tad weary from the accolades and keen attention being
cast their way.

Besiged not lost on NU Country [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 11:04:am
An Ode to Westgarth Film Festival "Food for Thought 2005"
Otherwise known as cinematic bingo
While the Picnic at Hanging Rock is not far away
?Tis not the only reason to be here today
Though not what "I expected" we?re now on "Terra Firma"
No longer "Besieged" nor "Lost", by organisational
?dilermma? We hid behind our "5.0 Clock Shadow" ?n?
thought we?rin strife. "We are juggling the elements"
but "love our dreams for life'?.
We will never love again as god is our witness
With "Countess Dracula" ?n? our Maid to order issss".
"decent generous tolerant, open minded people"
Here at the base of Darebin?s steeple
We no longer look to "California Dreaming" but seek
out a "NU Country".
In our Indian Summer" of Westgarth's "Spring Rhapsody'.
We did have such a"gay ole time in the park?.
To ensure the F?n?F Fest will be such a lark
As intriguing as some "parts of a horse".
We?ll now get to see the "Forest" for the trees,
of course we dream longingly about "Steinbeck editing
and wonder what mentors of the future will sing.
We think of "Tibet" and bet for a cert
That "Suzie's in the mix," for our "Dessert"'
We are intolerant to the "Dismissal" and look forward
to fun And can only imagine the "green dragon" in "Melbun"
We are very aware of "nature?s revenge", her capacity
to pillage And that this Festival?s a triumph of the
folks of the Village

Films on wheels in Westgarth [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 04:49:am
Pearls from Alex
I think it's very easy to get branded in Hollywood.
We grew up on Lethal Weapon and Die Hard, and those
were very character-driven movies. Whatever action movie
we're doing, the first question we have to ask ourselves
is, 'What is the character story here? Could we make
an independent movie out of just that character story?'
Then, when you apply that to the action genre, it's really
special and interesting. That's kind of the barometer we
use to decide what we're going to do."

"Entertaining Countess Dracula" tells a daringly bloody

female vampire. In 17th Century Hungary.
"The infamous Blood Countess was convicted of gruesome
crimes of torture and depravity with her young maids. Was
she a bloodthirsty monster or the victim of a sinister
political intrigue?"
"As the net closes in on the Countess, her musicians come
closer to the truth, only to find themselves trapped in a
castle of absurd horrors. In the tradition of the silent
era, directed by short film-maker Nathan Godkin,

local and emerging filmmakers. With a dash and a
tasty splash of internationl content......
November 3-12th 2005
The Americans bless them have sent us a scary array
of Horror films ..... gathered by our very luscious
man on the ground Lee G.
Below are several events that will be showing
When Mother Nature Strikes Back, Werewolf Woes
and Les Infante Des Terrible . These ae just 3
of the events to be held at Alphabet City and various
other venues during the Westgarth Film Festival
?Food for Thought 2005?.
?Horror is such a fascinating genre because
horror films explore the mythic, they can be some
of the most socially and philosophically aware films
and they constantly push boundaries,? said Film
Festival Committee member Lee Gambin.
?As far back as I can remember I?d revel in watching
late night horror treats, from Universal?s glamorous
gothic chic such as Frankenstein to the 40?s wave of
supernatural chillers such as Cat People and I Walked
With A Zombie. The great thing about a Festival like
this is that we can show old-fashioned favourites as
well as new, innovative horror films from emerging &
established filmmakers.?
During the Festival, audiences can attend a healthy
dose of horror hedonistic treasures in the Alphabet
City courtyard, along with specials on Bloody Marys
and other chilling cocktails.
The program will also include an Eco-Horror feast AIP?s
Frogs and Joe Dane?s classic Piranha. a celebration of
terror-iffic sadists with classics The Bad Seed and
Children of the Corn . Also a program of new, Award-
winning Horror Shorts from around the globe.
The Horror Feast forms part of over 30 Festival events,
which will include screenings of over a hundred short
films from local and established filmmakers, script
readings and film forums.
?So grab your crucifix or sharpen those claws
because the Westgarth Film Festival is going to be
frightfully fangtastic...?.Lee G

Clowning around in Spring [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 01:04:pm
The Banquet (that is Westgarth Film Festival) ?food
for thought 2005? is shaping up into a sensational
and succulent event. Well known and respected filmmakers,
producers, and those who support independent film are
giving support and lining up to play a role in this NEW
and evolving film festival in Melbourne.
All contributors are keen as a ?Goddess in the kitchen of
life? too add their own unique flavour to this splendid
film festival to be launched on November the 03rd 2005.
Below are a just a taste, of those who have added their
unique personal flavour to what is ?Food for Thought 2005?.
Brendan Guerin from the Guerin Group has submitted an
amusing ?dark comedy? that examines the perceived
loss of control in ones life. A story that embodies the
struggle of letting go of the ego and recognizing, we are
all part of the cycle of life. Clown Story brings
to light the importance of the mentors of the past and
the future.
?Clown story?is just one of over 120 films that
will add a beautiful, blend of exotic flavours to Food
for Thought 2005.
Below are some pearls on "Clown story" from the
director Michael Adante and a link to the Gueringroup
website.
link www.gueringroup.com.au
?The Guerin Group strongly believes in the collaborative
approach to making films and we actively seek to work with
like-minded film-making professionals. In December 2004,
we completed a short film titled "Clown Story" and
screened it to 100 cast and crew members at the VCA?s
Grant Street Cinema ."Clown Story" is now being
entered into several A-grade film festivals in 2005,
locally and abroad.?
Written & directed by VCA graduate Michael Adante,
"Clown Story" features knock-out performances by
Steve Adams and Gary Abrahams.
(Stay tuned to Vita for "Food for Thoughts" program
for Clown Story's screening details)
The impressive list of contributors is extensive here is
more from Angelo Salamanca.
This film festival is an opprtunity "for film makers
whose work may be overlooked" to be seen at this NEW
festival. "It gives a voice to those filmmakers who value
content over presentation."
"It celebrates enterprising efforts to tell personal
stories through film. The festival "offers a vision to
other communities who may wish to create similar
events."
Below is another talented Australian film maker and
contributor to Westgarth Film Festival "Food for Thought
2005"
Prolific film maker Bill Mousoulis will not only
run a workshop on film making during this 10 day event
A screening of one his film Spring Rhapsody will
be featured at the same event.
Spring Rhapsody was released in 2004
An 84 minute video
Music by Mink Engine
featuring (in alphabetical order)
Kim Denman Mark Dessaix Bernard O'Connor Rad Rudd
Josie Scott Andrew Upward Anthony Wemyss Nicola Wright
Spring Rhapsody will be screening at the Westgarth Film

On wheels in Westgarth & pearls to go.... [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 04:14:pm
All is full swing for the premiere season of Westgarth's
new icon. The Villages most current festival.
A ?VITAL? and unique film festival ,?Food for Thought
2005?
First came the feral float, then along came Yarra
Trams, in hot pursuit came a Goddess on wheels?????..
(An extreme sport indeed, which requires supervision
and much practice) Ah ya ya??..
Westgarth Film Festival?s EP is careering about on
?a camera dolly?, from the mountain to the village
raising the profile of this ?extraordinary courageous
yet hilarous event.? (CK7).
I myself have been scouting about and found many
enthusiastic admirers and supporters for Westgarth?s
film festival. Filmmaker?s producers, actors and the
Minister for the Arts are all eager to add their, own
dialogue to this very "NOW"script.
Apparently, Mary is so thrilled about the event, she
has been rendered speechless. Seen by all accounts
knee deep in vintage fabrics at ?Flashback?, selecting
the most appropriate vintage/genre cloth, for her gown
for opening night???????
linkwww.vintagefabric.com.au
Pearls of pleasure on the issue coming from Mary?s
lips soon?????
The divine talented and dedicated Adam Elliot had
this to say on our film Festival
?Storytelling is chicken soup for the soul, and we
can never get enough film festivals in Australia,
which showcase local, national and international
storytellers.
Three cheers for Melbourne's newest festival for the
avid ?cinefile? Westgarth! Congratulations to the
incredibly fecund organisers for all their passion,
persistence, and overall gorgeousness. So turn that
projector on, shove your gob full of Jaffas. Switch
off the lights; we've got some stories to tell!!"
Adam Elliot.
Another keen player and supporter is committee
member (and another of my favourites) the incredibly
delightful and prolific Angelo Salamanca. Angelo has
played a key role in developing up the Westgarth
festivals workshop program. ( more on that later)
"The festival has engendered community spirit by
allowing the community to contribute directly to this
exciting event. It enhance Victoria?s film culture &
confirms Melbourne as the film capital of Australia.
It offers a vision for other communities who may wish
to create similar events."
Angelo Salamanca.
Check out the site below for more on his successes.
More pearls from Angelo soon.....

And this supportive message has just come through
from the lovely international and philanthropic
Minnie Mullee
Vita, darling, I love film and am so pleased your
running a little celluloid buffet in Westgarth. If
it wasnt for this damn Cyclone...... Id be there.
I'm stuck in in Andhra Pradesh state thats left nearly
200,000 people homeless. Of course all eyes on that
pesky Hurricane Rita so you wouldn't know much about

Trials and tribulations of film making [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 10:22:am
"Be true to your characters. As schizoid as this might
sound, we try to let the characters tell us what they
want to do, as opposed to forcing them into situations
that will simply solve the story. We try to let the
characters work things out for themselves organically."
Chris Wilkinson.
"In the cruelest step of the pilot process exceeding
even the night a producer, forced us to order expense-
account food from an inferior restaurant. The studio
makes you watch as strangers evaluate your show, so
you can re-edit it before handing it in to the network.
If people had to do this with their sex lives, the
human race would end."
Joel Stein
"They would act like real people if they were put in
this astounding situation. These are people who live
in an enormously scaled world, with space travel,
superpowers and so on. Yet that world feels fun real
because of the characters who are taking you through
it."

"Go Get" Westgarth November 2005 [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 09:19:am
"I don't think the show offers you easy answers on
why Al Queda does what Al Queda does, but I think
it gives you an easy reference into how an entire
culture, or entire group of people, can believe
something so fervently that seems so unfathomable
at the beginning. "
Battlestar Galactica's Ron Moore
However, as Sarah would say ?you/we are not alone
in this story,? but we do believe fervently in our
goals in Westgarth and the need to LOVE fully.

shops and genre events are beginning to take shape.

Committment to a filmic way [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 06:37:pm
"The one important thing I have learnt over the years
is the difference between taking one's work seriously and
taking oneself seriously. The first is imperative and the
second disastrous."
Harlan Ellison
Well it?s the final day of Melbourne Film Festival 2005,
popular last day Films ?Turtles Can Fly, the Child, and
3- Iron?,are BOOKED out and over for this year.
This Film Festival is Not for the faint hearted. To
be a total devotee of film during winter in Melbourne one
must make a full commitment to this splendid visual event!
Melbourne Film Festival can get quite intense. One must
be in love with film and film society to really keep up
to speed with all that is going on.

popular films and their availability. Cancellations, color
co- ordinating outfits for sessions. Selecting appropriate
warm comfortable clothing. Making bookings.
Honoring friends and family by buying full price tickets to
their creations. Making sure ones caterer, creates suitable

A must have is a survival kit water, sleeping bag mohair or
mink blanket, firm cushion to give one more height or for
those with a bony derriere. Berrocca or pain killers for

that seriously)

Viewed tales of unique lifes [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 02:30:pm
Melbourne Film Festival is on again and in
full viewing, for the world to see. This world famous
film festival is in full flight, in ?the most
livable city in the world?.
Very elegant, hungry, audiences, both international,
& local, are watching for all their worth, consuming
this major annual filmic feast in Melbourne.
My loving and joyful friend Jane whisked me off to
the Greater Union in Russell St in the CBD recently,
to see an excellent double. ?Jabe Babe? and the
?Girl in the Mirror?.
An intense and important double made by courageous
talented women, about courageous talented women.
(not to forget Roland, who obviously has brought
together his polarities of male/ female, and done
a divine editing job on,?Jabe Babe?.
The first film was the story of ?Jabe Babe?.
"A Heightened Life enters the world of a tall woman
with a very tall tale, who has learned that a strong
character and a good sense of humor are essentials
for survival."
A ?52-minute film by successful Australian Film Maker
Janet Merewether: "The film explores the personal
and medical experiences of 29-year-old Jabe Babe."
linkwww.realtimearts.net/rt49/mereweather.html
One can see that ?Jabe? lives in her body bravely
and dances as if no one has, seen her jitterbug on a
ladder. She loves like she will never be hurt, and
lives her heaven on earth.
Having always believed I was 6ft 3 inches and willing
to climb higher, I was mesmerized by the bold beautiful
and confident Jabe. Who indeed has led a courageous and
unique life. This divine film begs the issue.....
As my PA and confidante, would say ?aren?t we all darling?.
I was on the edge of my seat not to mention tears as we
explored this beautiful and honestly made film.
Jabe is a woman living her uniqueness fully and
loving her life all the way. The film 'uses a high degree
of stylization, exciting visual treatment, and complex
effects?.
The film has exquisite and intricate sets, that leave
you wishing JABE's childhood birthday parties had looked
like the film of her life thus far. It leaves you wanting
her "specialsits" to be right that she will live a long
and love filled life. "Knowing she has taken life by
the horns and made it beg for more". We all know she
deserves more more more.........
DOP Jackie Fracas shot many of the visual effects in-
camera. Production design was by Karla Urizar with the
lovely and talented Georgia Wallace-Crabbe as the
Production Manager. Roland Gallois is the film's
editor.?

Mayhem and "Born with the Blues" [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 10:01:pm
Below is a press release from:
Mayhem Production?s at Theatre Works
presents
BORN WITH THE BLUES
Mayhem Cabaret?s got the blues
It's about depression, self-expression, spirituality,
celebration, and a damn fine genre of music! There'll be
African Singers, Gospel choirs, Mississippi poets, Chicago
club scenes, Chain Gangs.
And that's only the music!
Our journey begins in early 1700s Africa where the people,
along with their music are shipped as slaves across the
Atlantic Ocean to America. Here the influence of African
rhythm and American hardship combined to create the backbone
to all contemporary music - the blues.
Mayhem 10 will pay homage to the people, the movement,
the emotion, the history, and the subsequent exuberating
effect of the blues.
It wouldn't be Mayhem if it didn't have the usual mix of
circus, comedy, Vaudeville, theatre and cabaret!

Passion and good story telling [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 04:41:pm
The Academy award shortlisted nominations are on again
in earnest. Peter Cornwell yet another talented
Australian filmmaker is up for the big gig an Oscar in
the best animation category.
Peter Cornwell's 14-minute animated horror film Ward 13,
has been nominated in the 2005 Oscars in the same catergory
won by another Australian Adam Elliot in 2004 for the long
suffering yet delightful "Harvie Krumpet."
Peter has been nominated along with nine other nominees.
Peter's motivation to make the film stemmed from the desire
to examine how people deal with the fear of hospitalisation.
"I wanted to tap into the real fear that people have of
hospitals. Just about everyone will end up in hospital one
day. And when you do, you are completely at the mercy of the
doctors. How safe are you really?"
Ward 13 as had already received accolades in a range of film
festivals all over the world. Below is his site with more
details on Peter's achievements and passionate persistence
as a filmmaker.
link www.ward13.com.au/news.html
The Oscar for best Animation film that was so convincingly
if not elegantly won last year by the wonderful and loving
Adam Elliott. (For Harvie Krumpet),
As I have mentioned before Adam appears to have opened the
door and attracted the worlds eyes to Australian animation
in the naugties. Oh we can be shockingly and yet excitingly
animated if the mood takes us..... Or has been said of
"moi".
"She is polite in all the right places and outrageous
in all the others"
This award has again attracted 2 talented Australians to
this years Oscar's (see Vita?s Arts & Culture Dec 2003 "
Birthday Boy")
It was interestingly noted in today's Australian newspaper
that nominations and awards of this nature had "made
the world take notice of Australia's short films, and that
shorts are thriving with talented film-makers from all
genres."
In recent years, local film-makers have regularly featured
on lists of nominations and winners of international film
awards including the Oscars, the Cannes film festival, and
Britain's BAFTAs."
As was noted in the Australian newspaper, "local" Australian
film Festivals such as "St Kilda, Flickerfest, and Tropfest,
(which between them attract hundreds of thousands of people
a year to screenings),? are fumdamentl brandings to highlight
the breadth and diversity of film making in Australia.
Indeed these festivals play a key role to enhance the profile
of the short film genre for both filmmakers and creates an
opportunity for more diverse audiences to participate. This
bodes well as move into a world where participatory media will
become the norm.. More on this issue soon........
As our dearest Adam pointed out "the trend in short films
is simply that Australia is good at storytelling?. ?We?re
good at telling stories and short films are a great way of
telling good stories?.
We look forward to Adam's feature length story in the fullness
of time. No doubt Ms Melanie?s diligence to secure the required
love and interest, from those with eyes to see where true love
and genius are, will be a key factor as well....

announcements in 2005, for all selected nominees is

Pumping Hearts and Creative Boys [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 01:43:pm
Well another talented Australian film maker is up for
the big gig in Hollywood in 2005. ?Birthday Boy"
has made it to the semi-final round of competition
for the 2005 Academy Awards? for Best Animation.
It has been written and directed by Sejong Park and
produced by Andrew Gregory. "Birthday Boy"has made it
to the final 10 in the Animated Short Film category.?
In July this year Sejong told the lovely Amanda Kellar
of Mondo Thingo- ? I find it hard to be on the stage.
my heart is pumping very loud.?
No doubt Sejongs heart will continue to pump loudly with
wild excitement until the 25th of January 2005. The date
when all announcements for Oscar nominations will be declared
for 2005. Which will no doubt create great squeals of delight
in Sydney as it did in Melbourne early 2004. Lets all pray to
the Goddess that Sejong continues to be celebrated well into
the "Naughties"
Sejong was born in Busan, (Pusan) which is second-biggest
city in Korea. His film 'Birthday Boy', is,?half
of the story of my childhood. I really enjoyed making my
own toys.?
link www.pusanweb.com/community/index.htm
Let?s hope that Sejong continues to make toys that delight
and the "Oscar Branch Nominating Committee"come to
Sejong's party.
Our Adam (Elliot, last years Oscar winner for this
catergory), has set a benchmark not be poked or baulked
at. Adam Elliot has put animation film up there in the
big end of town. Particularly for animnation film makers
who are working alone....... or not working for Disney....
Both Adam and Sejong are indeed Mountain climbers and well
deserving of the rewards that are bestowed upon them.Their
achievements honour animation film makers everywhere.
Animation at the Oscar?s was sniffed at and barely touched
on in the New York Times this time last year. Some
would say animation has, been a minor player/ or low down
in the food chain of filmmaking. (This however is not my
own opinion of course!).
The great and gorgeous Adam Elliot has brought animation
into focus with his own bare hands and open heart. Adam
and I suspect our ?Birthday Boy? Sejong Park have
providing the world with a new level of vital animated
enthusiasm, to this labour intensive form of filmmaking.
Birthday Boy is an Oscars? semi-finalist in 2005
?The film will now be screened to the Branch Nominating
Committee, which consists of all members of the Academy
Short Films and Feature Animation Branch. This committee
will then choose the final five short animated shorts to
be nominated for the 2005 Oscar?. The nominations will be
announced on 25 January 2005.?
As Adam did before him Sejong will no doubt sing and chant
to the Goddess above and pray for his day?s in the sun. We
wish him, well and hope all his ?birthday boy? dreams come
true. As we know we must climb our mountains to truly live
in our dreams awake.
See below for a very interesting site the original boystown
that was actually established in Busan (Pusan) in 1964.
linkwww.worldvillages.org/pusan4.asp
and yet there is always more talent to be shown and awarded.......
The 49th Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism
have been held in Melbourne.
Congrats to all those ABC "men of digital media" who
have won five of seven categories for news and current affairs
at Australia's most prestigious media awards.
(The Walkleys's)
Bless you because you are talented!!!
Love for all boys who sing from the heart and create great
stories and fabulous toys

Barry's Way at the Meat Market [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 06:21:pm
"Roll up roll down? be aware Barry/ Twist McGee is
in town. Barry,(that is when he is being formal could well
be identified as the painters, activist. Young virile
vibrant and free. Barry is willing to spray, where no man
has sprayed before!
He is a San Francisco lad, who became well respected in
his teenage years as a ?graffiti writer? His genre and
creative genius speaks loudly to issues that he cares for
deeply. It becomes apparent he has a passionate dislike
of commodity ethics and a world that disenfranchises the
?other?.
Barry is diverse in his abilities expressing his art through
?graffiti writing, sign painting, murals, and installations
of found objects?. Barry is a shed man ?ah ya ya, you can
never have enough sheds?, See his work ?Tools of the
trade?.
He is passionate about his topics and obviously loves the
other, as he would have himself loved. Barry has expressed
and represented his knowledge of street life through various
mediums that include ?graffiti, punk, and hard-core music?.
Barry has also drawn much of his inspiration for art from
?folk culture of tramps, hobos, and transients?.
He is well aware of the need to consume and replenish in his
desire to express his art and sustain the world for the next
generation. Barry is compassionate, and appears to be well
connected to the heart of street life and its particular
culture.
This compassionate man from ?San Fran? is in Melbourne to
help revitalize and reopen the splendid and elegant ?1880s
North Melbourne landmark Meat Market?.
The newest wing to Marvelous Melbourne?s new and evolving
Art Precinct will be reborn on the 28th of October 2004. The
Meat Market has been revalued revitalized and given ?a $3.26
million, three-year refurbishment. A transformation that could
wel be compared too a full body wrap, facial and in fact one
might include a full brazilian wax to top it of. "Courtesy of
the State Government of Victoria?, which owns the building.
(Our Steve has always had a good understanding and feel for
looking your best at all times. No wonder he has started
moonlighting in the arts in 2004 see his cameo in Stiff.....)
The City of Melbourne?s Cultural Venues Team will
manage the Meat Market from early 2005.
One of Barry?s brilliant, works can be seen sprayed across
the National Gallery of Victoria's water wall on St Kilda
Road. Barry will be the second graffiti artist to be able
to express themselves fully on the exterior walls, of the
restored and refreshed NGV. The first in the naughties!!!
(?The late Keith Haring painted the wall in the early 1980s.?)

Past and present, members of Ska TV including originators
of the station There was even the occasional "wanna" be
politician and their PR people wandering about looking hungry
for a conscience and another free drink.
There was a rare siting of SKA TV's's original caterer. Maany
old friends and mentors of the past and future.
The fabulous Rod Quantock and hilarously funny Denise Scott
were among a host of fast talking, elegantly dressed presenters
at the Forum last night. Certainly those who won awards and
those who maintain the rage in an unjustice world, must indeed
be thanked.
However it is the hard working Events team, their crews volunteers,
and all those who played a role in making the night a wild, viable
evening that also must be thanked.
It was an incredbile achievemnt that appeared to have
"filled the House." We thank them for their great effort
and for their incredible perserverance.
Oh what a night it was to kick back and celebrate our ability to
shake the cage of a world behaving badly. With gracious thanks to
all those who played a role and particpated in the nights success
That would be everybody, as we are as one.

New York wheels at the Art House [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 01:59:pm
Ah ya ya Bill Shannon of New York street dance fame rushed
about at a furious and frantic pace last night at the MCC's
North Melbourne Art House. Leading us through his
dance of life using his tools of trade, wheels and crutches.
Inviting us in to his intimate life with humor tenacity and
a sheer bloody mindedness. Engaging us to witness a life in
motion and our response to what is and what is not.
A man willing to shake the cage of a world and its behaviours.
link www.whatiswhat.com
A multi media extravagance with documented footage of
previous works. A workshop style segment "dance of the
wheels and crutches",including some rather precarious
attempts at high flying crutch dancing. A new angle on
the highland fling!!
(not for the faint hearted my dears nor to be attempted
at home without having done Bill's workshop)
Leaving us breathless and begging for more. His courage and
frantic, momentum, were tempered by more serene and elegant
moments, leaving one feeling a little melancholy and wondering
why??.
Bill?s enthusiasm and passion for his gift to the world
was always present. A consideration on the issues of
judgment of the other and compasion for all.
The show had 4 distinct frameworks of time that lent it
self to a video clip style performance. Capturing moments
in time, with an interesting angle on the sociology of
loving fully. Mmmmmm one of Vita?s favorite themes......
A must see be there or miss out.One show left Tuesday 5th

New Voices new paradigms [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 01:12:pm
The fabulous and inspired, Melbourne based publisher and
poet, Kevin Pearson of ?Black Pepper Publishing?
fame, said,? A girl with an apartment has ideas".
(see his next release coming soon for the full poem.)
I am an extremely lucky little Goddess to have a publisher
who would and has dedicated this line to me. It is very
modern and cutting edge really to have a publisher who
writes about one.
While still making himself available to just have a
giggle and discuss the future and finer points of 21
century publishing and the digital age. A society
slow to learn yet finally more compelled to consume
and replenish. Is begining now to embrace and appreciate
also the blogger!!!!
Reduce the size reduce the environmental impact.
CD's not trees Little girl big vision etc.....
Is blogging the naughties version of journalism???
A topic that is being worked into a lather in New York
academic circles and the world of journalism.
Many bloggers are now being hotly pursued for their keen
observations and knowledge base. In Melbourne it has just
become "popular in the traditional media.
Articles in Melbounre's daily. Specific columns dedicated
to websites and blogging . It is quite popular with "
the lovely amanda of Mondo Thingo fame.
link www.abc.net.au/thingo/
I am inclined to believe self-publishing or blogging, as
it?s known online has quite a respectable future, and is
worthy of love and attention.
As charming and pretentious as having a publisher is, self -
determination, perserverance and tenacity are desirable
attributes for a wee goddess. Flat out and determined to
define new paradigms for the future.
At the cutting edge of all things grand gracious and
splendid.

Revised extract of Bill Shannon's Media Release
The City of Melbourne presents Bill Shannon

"Shannon?s rocker-bottom crutches become extensions of his
body as he skims, glides, strikes and explodes across the

us what a person is truly capable of when they transcend
others projected limitations and experience their fullest
potential.
"Bill Shannon is highly respected and recognized in the
international dance world. Including the underground
hip-hop and club dance scene as well as the disabled

Commodity Ethics VS Sacred Ethics [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 04:19:pm
Shane Maloney - Australian crime writer - was invited
to speak to students at Scotch College ( a very exclusive
boys school in Melbourne).
"Below is the text of his speech, which ruffled many of the
staff and students. Apparently he was never given guidance
about what he could or could not say, so ......
"When I first received an enquiry about my availability to
come and talk at this school, I was naturally reluctant.
After all, this school has little to recommend it in the
eyes of the wider community. Historically it has been simply
a machine for the transmission of inherited privilege. (At
the height of the Great Depression, for example, when many
Australian families hardly knew where their next meal was
coming from, Scotch College was the largest private school
in the British Empire).
It is a place where boys from middle class backgrounds are
sent to improve their material prospects and to reproduce
the values of their class, or where the boys of insecure
parents are sent to fulfil the distorted ambitions of their
fathers.
When I think of Scotch College, what comes immediately to
mind are the values and actions of its most prominent Old
Boys.I think of the scene I saw on television after Scotch
Old Boy Jeff Kennett ( the right wing ex Premier of Victoria)
used his power and his philosophy to close down the only
high school in the state specifically dedicated to the
education of young Aboriginal people.
How students from that school came here and stood at the
gates and how your Principal went out and told them to go
away. I think of your old boy, David Kemp, the current
Federal Education Minister, giving millions of dollars
of public money to enhance the "market-ability" of schools
like this one. Justifying his actions with statistics and
arguments that he refuses to apply to the needs of the 70%
of Australian families who CHOOSE to educate their
children in the democratic and equitable environment of
government schools.
I think, too, of the newspaper reports of the violent
behaviour of some of your students and the quick readiness
with which these boys were defended and excused in the
courts by their adult class allies. For these reasons,
I was initially reluctant to come here. On the other hand,
I thought 'Well, all this is hardly the fault of the current
crop of students'. It is not your fault, after all, that
your families decided to institutionalise you. It is not
your fault that your mothers and fathers elected to place
you in the emotionally distorting and educationally deficient
environment of an all-boys school.
It is not your fault that your parents lacked sufficient
confidence in your personal maturity and ability to respond
to the opportunities offered by government school education
and Australia has one of the best systems in the world, by
the way, despite the relentless propaganda to the contrary
by the vested interest of the private school lobby.
Right now, you are the victims. Later, of course, society
will be your victim, and will suffer from the attitudes
with which you are indoctrinated here. But who knows?
Just as prison does not always break the spirit of all
who are incarcerated there, perhaps you will not turn
out to be a burden to society. Perhaps when you leave
here, some of you will even manage to contribute to the
wellbeing of this country.
I certainly hope so. But just to hedge my bets, I will
be donating part of my fee today to the campaign for
public education. Good luck with your studies and thanks
for having me."
May sacred ethics prevail thanks to Shane for speaking
from the heart.

Directed by Scott Gooding
The city, restless, at night.
" Eleven stories about love in its many forms are

without listening, listen without feeling and act without
thinking. In these naked moments, human beings show their
most intense emotions, reveal their basest instincts.
Caresses is confronting, familiar, dark and funny.

The Store Room.
This was followed by award-winning playwright Ross Mueller?s
Domestic Animals at the 2003 Melbourne Fringe Festival.

Relearning our wisdom [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 08:59:am
"Everything passes. bear witness to what we were like.
Pass on what we gave you."
When we were children we loved because we remembered love
without things to "gain". When we were children the feeling
of our love was far greater than the wanting.... then we
learnt about pain. When we were children our love was innate
and we knew not to hate. When we were children our love was ever
present without carrying others shame. When we were children
we could not spell compassion yet felt others pain.
When we were children we knew what magic was and lived our
magic without having to expalin. When we were children we
loved to play and knew all the right games. When we were
children we felt no blame. When we were children there was
nothing to regain. When we were children there was no time
like the present with only our love to maintain.
the child that is within us all ??. NEEDS to believe in magic.

the wish-fulfilling teachings, which are the source of all
true peace, well-being and felicity."

Remember when you opened your letter box and understood the
content, a time when you were delighted to recieve mail/ email.
Remember when you last bought a stamp and attached it to a
letter you wrote. Remember the person you wrote to, what did
you say to that person???
Remember when you last joined a mailing list? Remember why
you joined. Remember the last phone call you made and whether
or not you just left a message. Remember the last time you
answered the phone and why? Remember when you felt compelled
to just let the phone ring out. Remember when you removed your
caller ID on your phone/s.
Remember when you had no idea what SPAM was. Remember when you
were protected without a "computer based virus protection system"
Remember the last time you felt, a need to be protected. Remember
what you felt you needed to be protected from.
Remember the last time you actually spoke to someone about being
loved and respected. Remember what you said and why. Remember
the times you felt safe to speak from the heart without judgement.
Remember the first person who showed you genuine love. Remember
when that was. Remember how that love made you feel. Remember when
you first responded to being loved. Remember how you responded.
Remember the best of your love

Vita at the Ishmael Club [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 01:14:pm
Press Release from the Playbox Theatre Company site:
?The Ishmael Club flourished for a few short bohemian years
in the early 1900's. The habitu?s included artists, poets,
actors, journalists, musicians, ?migr?s and politicians.
Katherine Mansfield, Trixie Tracey, Fred McCubbin, Louis
Esson - as well as the tribe of Lindsays - all congregated
there.
The food was simple but the talk was demanding. Fired by
music, garlic and impromptu theatrics. The Ishmael Club was
dedicated to provocation.
This is Australia between Federation and WWI- a time of grand
visions and convictions. Garner and Gore bring to life the
famous friendship between two of Australia's most talented
artists Bill Dyson and Norman Lindsay.?
Direction: DENIS MOORE
Design: SHAUN GURTON
Lighting: NICK MERRYLEES
With BRETT CLIMO as Bill Dyson,
ASHER KEDDIE as Ruby Lind and
ROBERT MENZIES as Norman Lindsay
Season extended until Sat 20 March
Mon & Tues 6.30pm
No performance Wed 17th March
Thurs - Sat 8pm
Sat 20th March 4pm
What Vita saw at the Ishmael Club?
The Ishmael Club took me back to a bygone era where men thought
it fashionable to be passionate and misogynist all in the same
life-time, if not right and proper. Robert Menzies was briliant
as the tortured and righteous Lindsay.
Faye Bendrups was a blessing and a comfort as Mrs Maggia. Bringing
credence to the idea that ? Food is love made visible?. Faye gave
us another talented woman of the time. With her goddess/ godly feel
for song. Her warming portrayal of Mrs Maggia was full like a bowl
of minestrone served with scones on a bitter Melbourne day.
Brett Climo as Bill and Asher Keddie as Ruby were divine in their
love and passion for each other and their art. Testimony too how
great love can be, when ego is lost and ones unique self is loved
fully by the other.
It was a genuinely moving account of another time and place.
A death scene to rival Romeo and Juliet. The Ishmael Club
left me spent, and remembering life times that were filled with
bliss and despair It was an era where women fought to exist and
died of the flu. Where men were tormented by their love and
unwilling or unable to relinquish control.
What?s changed in the naughties we may well ask???? Possibly
too much excess, "death by muffin" and living without staff!!!!
Birthing children and still having to clean the bath are ever
present!!!
The Ishmael Club is essential viewing a triumphant to these
fine actors the writers, director and crew. My only desire
was a for a larger menu to choose from. It left you wanting
more more more......
May passion and persistance reign

Broadway at the Court House [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 12:24:am
Press Release from La MAMA web site
Act One
At the Carlton Courthouse, 349 Drummond Street
Opening Wednesday February 25 until Saturday March 13
Wednesdays and Sundays at 6.30pm
Thursdays to Saturdays at 8.00pm
A stage-struck kid from the slums flukes a job in a theatrical
producer's office. After Moss writes a succession of plays that
are rejected, he comes up with another idea and the play becomes
the surprise hit of Broadway. The captivating story of how a young
man becomes successful through sheer determination and hard work.
"It is so loving and respectful ... never before has dramaturgy
become the central action of such a stirring play."
John McCallum, The Australian.
Adapted for the stage by Don Mackay from the autobiography of
Moss Hart.
Directed by Don Mackay
With Simon Russell as Moss Simon Mallory as everyone else.
What Vita saw on Broadway at the Court House
It was an epic effort to rival my favourites Australian animators
work or indeed the great Moss himself!! The two Simons worked
the stage in a passionate and at times frenzied manner, that
left one spent. "Act one" gave us a snapshot of the tenacity
and persistence it takes to live your dream on Broadway.
?Act one? revisits the heady days of Broadway in the first part
of the twentith century. Simon Russell was delightful and
exuberant in his charming portrayal of Moss Hart. Showing Hart's
innocence and courage, to seek fame and freedom from poverty.
Simon Mallory was stunning in his range of roles that gave
the impression that it was cast of thousands. My Ukrainian
talent scout and I were mesmerised by Mallory?s ability to
play such a plethora of roles. Mallory moved effortlessly
from Moss?s great aunt Kate (who encoraged his love of theatre),
to his angry penniless father in the flick of an eye.
Not to mention his divine Mae West inspired, philanthropic
flapper. A woman who was compelled to support Moss?s efforts.
Unfortunately not so with Moss's unmemorable mother. A part
that should have been talked up or left alone. However an
impressive attempt at bringing together the polarities
of man and woman.,through the voice of one actor.
"Act One" is a marathon piece of theatre that proves that given
the gift of persistence and passion ones goals can be reached.
The question I have too ask is, were the Simons cleverly parodying
art with reality by the second half of ?Act One??
A must see, nevertheless, however I suggest you take a soft
cushion to ride out the roller coaster of Moss Hart?s climb to
Broadway.
With memories of Time Square and thundering applause

Harvie the darling of the Oscars [Vita's Arts & Culture] -
vitalingus - @ 08:15:pm
The news of Harvie Krumpet? win came by phone. Unsurprising
yet nevertheless this was indeed an excellent opportunity for
me to squeal with pleasure. Over the endless pop of champagne,
bottles, the Nokia ring ever present, not to mention tears of
joy. Melbourne people celebrated this Oscar?s win with a wild
abandonment not seen since I climbed Everest,(or was that my
ladder)??
Now we can kick back with a berrocca in post Oscar?s fever. We
can only now reflect awhile on the long arduous yet, satisfying
journey that brought Harvie to be. We are so proud Harvie Krumpet
has climbed to the top of his mountain after his most tortured
and tumultuous life.
His true tenacity courage and will to live and love fully has
been acknowledged by significant others at the Oscars in Hollywood.
As the saying goes ? our truest life is when we are in dreams
awake?. This is so true, for his creator and producer. They
are bringing him home triumphant having won Best Animation Film
at the 2004 Oscar?s.
Harvie ?s producer the lovely and articulate Ms Melanie Coombs
honoured in her acceptance speech, the woman who has played a
significant role in creating who Melanie has become. Humble and
divine as ever the talented Adam Elliot, Harvie Krumpets creator
gave an eloquent and moving speech honouring those he loves.
Adam thanked, the many that have walked on his mountain to
achieve his goals.
We now wait with anticipation for their safe return from the
wilds of LA. Praying they have kept themselves nice and only
kissed those they would kiss again. Johnny Depp comes to mind
actually, Mmmmm... that sounds nice? Hours of fun. However as
those in the know are aware integrity is paramount for this wee
Goddess. I would never smooch with the love of another for days
on end. Possibly in our next life we could spend some exquisite
moments together.
It has not officially been confirmed whether Melanie was
wearing Manolo Blahnik?s with that rather elegant gown by
Leona Edmiston.
However I feel comfort knowing she would not drink her martini
from a "Blahnik" if she had not scotch guarded (water resistant
product) first. Nor would she offer her Blahnik?s as a drinking
vessel to another, without having discussed their credentials
and intentions toward her.
I am sure Sarah Jessica would have offered some useful tips to
our Melanie on maintaining ones integrity while drinking from a
Blahnik. All this and more will be revealed in the fullness of
time. I do hope, as I advised them, that they take their own
paparazzi, to capture every splendid moment. We look to the
future for more splendid works from these talented people.

What others say about Projections
?This compelling and paradoxical work is a collage taken from blockbuster movies woven together into a philosophic statement which, in a tongue-in-cheek manner explores and reveals their intriguing, often ignored sub-texts. A witty, Insightful and poetic confluence of low-tech
theatre and high-tech film.?

PROJECTIONS indeed!!! This is a compelling, dark sensuous piece of
theatre presenting a range of dialogue examining the dark side of
men?s fears and angers. This sharp fast moving piece of theatre
takes us through dialogue taken from American contemporary films
based in violence.
Peter Finlay is brilliant as he delivers torrid violent and some
times hilarious dialogue from the likes of Dennis Hooper,Sean

Hollywood. The set is minimal,(I love the ladder) the menu is full.

It is said that the best real/relationships are those you nuture
and work at. The most beneficial to growth and change. Release
old expectations Don't offer what you need offer what the other
needs. Give with both hands and create anew. Love the one you love.
fully. Never compomise your love or confuse kindness for temporary
pleasure. Learn from past experience and be present now.
As Tony Anthony author of Beneath Buddhas Eyes. who is a
Connecticut writer and photo journalist said so succinctly in his
beautiful article on the Soul Foods Cafe site.
See link below.
link www.dailywriting.net/
"A good tree will let you sink into its trunk when you lean back
against it. It can be hard one minute, when you want to scratch
your back, and then soft the next, when you want to rest again.".
To act on our love is all we need to do. It is "enough in this
world, to travel as far into the other as I might want to go."
We must all make these steps to honour and love what we can become.
Even if this leaves another out and lets another in. Love can last
a moment and always a life time.
So open the door and sing your song of love, to the one you truly
love. Hounour right now, you are not the past you are the present
and what can be, only you know what is right for you.

vitalingus - @ 11:32:am
Well what I can say the ski season in the south is upon us and
one is flat chat dressing appropriately. On the topic of great
loves, one of my favourite men at the ABC, has put intimacy and
relationship on the agenda.
George Negus a lovely tropical fish who is always willing
to swim in to exotic waters has taken on a new role at the ABC.
He is a man definitely trying to look at the bigger issues. Is
he following Vita's lead or walking with her??? I think there
could be a hint of love and courage going on for the male
population being lathered up by George.
Certainly "Dimensions is worth a "look see".What is that saying??
"copying being the finest form of flattery". It's not flattery
that's needed however, some quality time on the couch with George
could well be the shot. That is to further this discussion on
relationships. This would be a great step forward for mankind.
All issues great and gorgeous could be pursued. Just think
George and Vita taking on the finer points of intimacy!!!!
George Negus returned to the ABC in 2003, to host New Dimensions.
"As host of the program George together with his nightly studio
guest highlights the trends and issues explored in our New
Dimensions stories.
George and the team of specialist reporters will provide an
uplifting, occasionally confronting, but entertaining, audience
friendly look at our changing social fabric."
"George's 30 years at the forefront of the Australian media
has included his unforgettable contributions to two of the
country's most successful television current affairs programs
60 Minutes as a reporter and ABC TV's Foreign Correspondent as
presenter.
"George's unique list of interviewees and profiles over the
years, national and international, is eclectic. It spans
politics, the arts and sport, and includes Bob Dylan, Steven
Spielberg, Australian band INXS, Jane Fonda and his infamous
interview with Margaret Thatcher. In his incisive tracking of
both the Middle East and Northern Ireland conflicts, he spoke
to world leaders and international peace-brokers."

Vita's moment with George is definitely on the horizion.
Pursue the truth of love and do not let it sneak up on you
and pass you by.
