Yesterday we "celebrated the 60th anniversary of
the UN Declaration of Human Rights. We now must
take this opportunity to ensure that human rights
are finally protected in Australia.

It is seriously unbelievable, that Australia is
the only so called democratic country in the world
without formal human rights protections.

behavior of how a government behaved and the appalling
treatment of refugees in Australia...

Without a human rights mandate, previous governments
have got away with keeping children in detention, with
leaving indigenous people without adequate housing,
health and education services. This has perpetuated
human rights abuses to take place daily in Australia.

These outrageous acts took place in the form of wide
spread false fears apathy bureaucratic bungles and
wide spread acts of discrimination. Adding up to a
lack of respect for the other. Now, finally, the
current Federal Government have at last opened up
the conversation on human rights.

Imagine telling our children we had a hand in creating
the Magna Carta, the US Declaration of Independence or
the French Declaration of the Rights of Man.

We have a chance now to establish Australia's own nation-
defining declaration. This can be made possible if we
all create the future. We must all play a role in
developing this declaration and ACTING ON IT !! This will
not happen without US all having a contribution to the
creation of such a declaration...

Many in the Government are hoping there will be little
community interest in a Human Rights Act for Australia.
We know better over the past three years you and 300,000
other GetUp members have campaigned to stand up for all
our human rights time and time again.

A civilized compassionate democracy shouldn't have to
rely on community outrage to ensure laws and decisions
are right and fair.

We need to find a way to make sure that human rights
are taken into account when decisions are made, so that
WE all treated with respect compassion and love.

The kind of things we worry about on a day to day basis:

just some... Setting a standard for how we should be treated
in both good times and bad, and honoring those beliefs...

We must lift the benchmark after the 'horror fear and
disrespect of the "Howard years"... Remember he coined
the phrase "the Pacific solution" Does this remind us
of another ego ridden man in the 20 century?

WE must create new more honorable standard that take
all our people with us.

GetUps campaign to 'Save the Net' is gaining
momentum faster than all expectations, as the
Government's ill -considered plans too slow
down and censor the internet is "facing a major
backlash", according to media reports.

Their Internet censorship proposal goes further
than any other democracy - Making the Internet up
to 87% slower, more expensive, that will be blocking
one in 12 legitimate sites, and without doubt will
be missing the vast majority of inappropriate content
that is now generated...

Apparently temporary pleasure sites now.make up 70%
of the net..So this absurd idea of blocking sites
does NOT have much traction really....

Only a massive public outcry "and talking to the
Americans about their censorship" will give the
Federal Government a better understanding and insight
on this issue.

With my own site I have had to remove coding to stop
the Spam robots from entering my site for the last 3
years..This has meant NO ONE can comment on Vita..As
it is an American database that also blocks other local
providers! So in fact we already being censored by this
strangle hold on software development. We must consider
the long term implications of this, as we develop our o
wn RD for Australian software and the funding of such..

That is much more IMPORTANT THAN CREATING BLOCKS TO
SITES.MOST OF THESE SITES COME FROM OF SHORE..Lets look at
the bigger picture on this issue as well!!
